History

Said to have originated in Spain's Aragon region, where it's known as 'Garnacha.' It crossed to France in the Middle Ages and became important in the Southern Rhône. It reigns as the leading variety among the 13 permitted grapes of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Sommelier Note

Grenache produces wines with a warmth like bottled sunshine. Since it's higher in alcohol, I recommend enjoying it at near room temperature rather than too chilled. It pairs excellently with lamb and Mediterranean cuisine.
